Our COVID-19 Response
If you need emergency shelter because of domestic violence, please call our 24-hour emergency hotline at 540-667-6466.
The Laurel Center has taken multiple steps in response to COVID-19. The most important priority is the health and welfare of our staff, residents and clients.
As of now, we are operating under normal business hours for our administrative offices and we continue to provide 24/7 staffing for our shelter program. Keeping the shelter open and running well continues to be a top priority. We are trying to move as many of our services as possible to mobile, remote, or technology services as a means to slow the spread of the virus. Other measure we are taking are as follows:
• Staying home from the office when not feeling well
• Suspending non-essential work-related travel
• Increasing sanitation of workstations and frequently touched surfaces
• Washing hands frequently and encouraging others to do the same
• Encouraging social distancing
• Deep cleaning the shelter daily
We are asking board members, donors and community partners to:
• Please do not come into our facilities if you are not feeling well
• If an office visit is necessary:
o Please do not bring any other children or adults to the office if they are not feeling well
o If you or someone in your household is sick, please reschedule your appointment
o Please exercise social distancing and allow plenty of space between you and others
We are currently monitoring many sources (i.e., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local government) for information. As this is an emerging and rapidly evolving health matter, we may make more protocol adjustments as we receive additional guidance. We will make you aware of these changes as quickly as we can.
Of note, we are running low on several essential supplies (i.e., water, toilet paper, paper towels , Clorox wipes, rubber gloves, etc.). We will be starting a "Community Drive for Supplies" this week. Please help us spread the word.
